detroit pre

DRIVING AT DETROIT: Ryan Dalziel and Marc Goossens will drive the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype.

CHEVROLET SPORTS CAR CLASSIC PRESENTED BY METRO DETROIT CHEVY DEALERS: Round 5 of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship held through the streets of Belle Isle Park, a 2.34-mile temporary street course.

2016 CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS – VISIT FLORIDA RACING: 3rd with 117 points after 4 of 10 rounds now complete.

STRENGTH IN DETROIT: Visit Florida Racing has shown strength at the Detroit street course event ever since IMSA first visited the venue in 2012. The team has brought home three top-five finishes including the pole position and a runner-up finish in 2014.

2016 AT A GLANCE: Visit Florida Racing kicked off the year with a podium finish at Daytona International Speedway and after two tough races at Sebring and Long Beach, the team returned to the podium with a runner-up finish in the previous race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Florida squad looks to carry that momentum into the race in Chevy’s backyard this weekend.

VISIT FLORIDA DRIVERS AT DETROIT: Ryan Dalziel has made three previous starts at Belle Isle in prototype machinery. He finished sixth in the 2012 debut driving a Ford/Riley for Starworks Motorsports and then went on to finish third the following year in the same package. He most recently contested the Detroit event in 2014 for ESM and finished fifth.

The 2016 Belle Isle event will be Marc Goossens’ first visit to the Detroit circuit.

TESTING: Visit Florida Racing visited Watkins Glen International along with several other IMSA teams to test out the road course’s new pavement. The track was re-surfaced over the off season for the first time in nearly 20 years. Both Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel tested the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype and gave the new pavement high marks as the entire team looks forward to its return to the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen where Visit Florida has taken the victory in the previous two 6 Hour events.

RYAN HUNTER-REAY TAKES PART IN 100th INDY 500: Visit Florida Racing endurance driver Ryan Hunter-Reay competed in the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 last weekend for Andretti Autosport. He showed strength early on in the race, but contact on pit lane ultimately took him out of contention for the win.

#SUMMERSTARTSNOW: Visit Florida has been utilizing the hashtag #SummerStartsNow to kick off the summer season. Be sure to include the hashtag in all your social media posts about YOUR summer fun!

DRIVER QUOTEBOARD:
Ryan Dalziel: “Detroit is a great venue for us especially since it's the home race for Chevrolet so we will be doing our best to get the Visit Florida Racing Corvette on the podium. Obviously Laguna Seca was a great points weekend for us but we lacked the pace we needed to challenge for the win. The guys have been working really hard since the last race to find some more speed so I’m looking forward to getting there and seeing where we stack up.”

Marc Goossens: "I have never actually been to the Detroit event before. But in general I really like the street circuit format. So hopefully we roll off of the Visit Florida trailer with a pretty good car and just build from there. I'm studying data and on board footage in order to prepare myself in the best way possible. It's the home race for Chevrolet so we're hoping to put on a good show with our Corvette Daytona Prototype."
